My new paintings are from my latest (2011) series, 3 Wheels Broke. I draw inspiration from many elements: architecture, chemistry, story telling, nature, etc. Growing up in Europe, I was surrounded by old architecture and began to understand how time transforms and impacts all man-made things. Surfaces become distressed and colors break-up into random patterns. Nothing is static in the physical world. These concepts have been stored and distilled in my memory, and I find they now resurface in my work. I have been living in the Northwest for the last 23 years, and I have come to love how the weather covers and at the same time reveals the lusciousness of nature. Here nature continuously and mysteriously transforms itself. From my studio window I can see the constant rearranging. It seeps into my work. It’s all alchemy to me. |
